Library

Library Committee

The Library is supervised and supported by the Library Committee which is appointed by the Rector of the University who serves as the President of the Committee as well. The LC  is composed by one representative of each Academic Department, the Director of Information & Learning Services and the Head of Library.

The duties of the committee include:

  • To provide liaison between the faculty and the Library administration in all matters of Library policy
  • To allocate funds, from the annual budget of the library, to individual Schools, for the purchase of books, journals and periodicals;
  • To approve library policies and regulations which govern the functions of the library
  • To receive the  Annual Report summarizing the activities and achievements of the library and assess the quality of the library services
  • To receive annual reports on financial problems, allocation of space, facilities for research, and any other matters within its jurisdiction.

The president of the Library Committee is responsible of calling meeting at his own crisis or after one of the members of the committee submits such a proposal.

Head of Library
  • Management of the  human resources of the Library
  • Supervision & providence for the effective operation of Library Departments
  • Compilation of Library Policies (Acquisitions, collection development, fines policy)
  • Collaboration with the Accounts Department for the utilization of financial resources
  • Proposal of library budget allocations
  • Submission of request for purchasing library material and equipment
  • Liaison between academic staff and librarians
  • Maintainance of current awareness issues referring to Academic Libraries
  • Representation of Library  to professional conferences and library events
 
Acquisitions Department

Monographs & Audiovisual material

  • Collection, review and forwarding of new material orders to vendors
  • Observance of acquisition procedure and update of requesters on the order status
  • Receipt of new material and invoice control, Forwarding of invoices to Accounts
  • Communication with vendors for due orders, damaged material etc
  • Observance of acquisitions statistics and vendor evaluation
  • Update of Library Manager for acquisition expenses and budget absorption

 

Print Periodicals

“Periodicals” is a general term used to describe publications that are issued at regular intervals (i.e., weekly, monthly, and quarterly). It includes journals, magazines, newspapers, yearbooks. The Office of periodical publications has the following duties

  • Ordering receiving, processing, claiming current issues of serials
  •  Assistance  in preparing invoices for the accounting department
  •  Preparation of past issues for Binding
  • Observance of  titles changes and update of WebOpac
  • Physical weeding, shifting, and maintenance of holding records in the library's online catalog. 

 

Technical Services Department

  • Cataloguing according to the Anglo-American cataloguing Rules 2 (AACR2)
  • Subjects and classification number allocation according to Library of Congress Subject Headings & Library of Congress Classification System
  • Creation of Authority Files
  • Stamping, and adhesion of RFID Tags and signs to items
  • Observance and maintenance OPAC
 
User Services Department

Reference Services

  • Conduction of bibliographies according to teaching courses
  • Reserve collection management in collaboration with Teaching Staff
  • Search, tracking and selection of Reference material
  • Indexing and management of electronic  
  • Collaboration with IT Dept. for webpage design & update
  • Collection of statistics and observation of service quality indicators.
  • Conduction of User Satisfaction Surveys & management of user dissatisfaction
  • Constant update of Library staff on new policies & regulations as well as oncurrent awareness issues referring to librarianship

User Support Services

  • Circulation management  (fines, recalls, holds, pendency updates)
  • Inter-library loan and document delivery services
  • User training seminars (information literacy program)
  • Design and publication of print and electronic library guides
  • Acquaintance of users with the regulations of the library
  • Registration of new library users
  • Observance of library incomes and deposit to accounting department
