The Cyprus Architects Association in collaboration with the Faculties of Architecture of the University of Cyprus. University of Nicosia. Frederick University. Neapolis University and the University of Patras are organizing a Summer Workshop for the design of a Child Medical Centre in Nairobi, Kenya
The initiative is part of the action of the Volunteer Doctors Cyprus and will form part of humanitarian aid to African countries.
The workshop will take place in Nicosia between 14 – 27 of June 2017. It aims at formulating the base for the design and activities relating to the delivery of the project. Other than participating at the design workshop, students and young architects will be asked to take part in a plan of action relating to the promotion, further development and fund raising for the actual construction of the project locally. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fieldwork, which will take place at later delivery phases of the project in Kenya. Key opportunity will be the familiarization of students with the local culture and people as well as local materials and construction methods in Kenya.
All students of architecture and recent graduates from any country will have the opportunity.
Before and during the design workshop, participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with relevant information on local social conditions, construction materials and construction techniques, local infrastructure, climatic conditions, etc. through specifically prepared and published material, introductory seminar etc.
