Meeting of researchers and representatives from 20 European cities

November 3, 2017

Dr. Konstantinos Tsagkaridis, Lecturer in the Department of Psychology of Neapolis University in Cyprus, participated in a meeting of researchers and representatives from 20 European cities, former and future European Capitals of Culture.

The meeting took place in Valetta (Malta) on the 19th of October 2017, during the customary annual meeting taking place in the upcoming European Capital of Culture. Valletta is the successor of Pafos as a European Capital of Culture for 2018 (along with Leeuwarden, Netherlands).

Opinions and good practices regarding the research carried out from the European Capitals of Culture were exchanged in this meeting. Dr. Tsagkaridis presented the research plan of the biannual “Cultural Barometre” research which is carried out in Pafos, as a collaboration between Neapolis University Pafos and the Organization Pafos2017. This research is expected to finish at the beginning of 2018. Its main goal is to record the opinions of the public regarding art and culture, the quality of the cultural activities in Cyprus and Europe, and the effects of the Cultural Capital in the cultural, social and economic development of the area.

Among other topics, the potential for setting up a guide of good research standards was discussed, to help future European Capitals of Culture. The possibility of setting up a Pan European consortium for further large scale research was also discussed.
