Professor Nick Gr. Zaharopoulos studied theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed postgraduate studies in Paris, at the Russian Institute of Orthodox Theology, Institut Catholique, École Pratique des Autes Études, Sorbonne. His expertise focused on Ecclesiastical History. He joined the University of Thessaloniki as an Executive lecturer and professor, where he taught courses in church history and canon law (by assignment) in undergraduate courses and postgraduate studies.
As dean, chairman and member of various committees of the University he oversaw administrative and organizational aspects of the University. He served as chairman or member of organizing committees of international conferences, in which he participated, as a rule, with suggestions. He participated in various research projects. He worked for many years in isolation or as a member of a committee manuscript version of the eight-volume History of Orthodoxy and the great Christian Orthodox Encyclopedia.
A fair amount of graduates in theology and other disciplines prepared with him postgraduate studies and doctorates.
He was a Special Secretary for the Ministry of Education and chaired the Committee on Ecclesiastical Affairs of the Ministry of Education and member of the Committees of the same Ministry, the YMATH of the Foreign Ministry, in the B’ Division. He is president of the Society for Ecumenical Studies and Inter-Orthodox Media and Vice Chairman of Research “Cyril and Methodius”.
He was editor of the socio-theological magazine “On the way”, which included many of his articles and book reviews.
He received honours including the Order of the excellent acts from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany and that of the Church of Greece.
