On Tuesday 16th of December 2014 a significant event was held at the University, in respect of the proposals submitted for the Architectural Competition for the Unification of the Archaeological Sites in Kato Paphos.
The event took place in the University amphitheatre and comprised a welcoming speech by the Rector of the University Mr.Spyros Makridakis, an introduction by the Dean of the School of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, Mr. Solon Xenopoulos, and presentations of their projects by the 1st price winners architects Marios Christodoulides and Christos Christodoulou, by the 2nd price winners architects Ioanna Theodosiou and Anastasis Ioannou, and architects Chrysanthos Crysanthou and Antigoni Papadopoulou who received an award.
The presentations were followed by an open discussion between the architects, members of the awarding committee of the competition, the public and students.
An Exhibition of all the proposals submitted for the competition, was staged in the main entrance lobby of the University, and the foyer space of the amphitheatre. In setting up the Exhibition participated a group of 4th year students of the School.
It has to be noted that this is the first time in Cyprus that an event like a public discussion and an exhibition for an Architectural Competition takes place in a University, something that constitutes one more indication of the role the School of Architecture aspires to play in Paphos but also in the island.
