The Future of European Integration: Insights from Cyprus, Hungary, and the Czech Republic

Leading the way to Erasmus Days 2025 Neapolis University Pafos hosted a roundtable discussion titled “The Future of European Integration: Insights from Cyprus, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.” on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, from 18:00 to 21:00. The event brought together academics and students for an insightful exchange on the current and future challenges facing the European Union.

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme under the Academic Staff Mobility scheme, the event was jointly organized by the Department of History, Politics and International Studies of Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus), the Ludovika University of Public Service (Hungary), and Masaryk University (Czech Republic).

Associate Professor Georgios Pavlidis (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence AI-2-TRACE-CRIME, NUP) opened the session with introductory remarks, setting the stage for a constructive dialogue on the evolving landscape of the European Union. Professor Boglárka Koller (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence CORE, Ludovika University of Public Service, Hungary) then delivered a presentation on “Differentiated Integration and the Dynamics of EU Governance,” analysing the various paths of integration within the Union and their implications for its institutional architecture. Following this, Professor Marek Frystak (Faculty of Law, Masaryk University, Czech Republic) offered an in-depth perspective on “The Case of the Czech Legal System within the EU Legal Order,” addressing the challenges of harmonising national and European legal frameworks. The discussion concluded with the remarks by Associate Professor Georgios Pavlidis on “The EU at a Crossroads: Integration, Values and Global Challenges,” which examined the Union’s strategic direction amid current geopolitical and institutional challenges.

A lively Q&A session with NUP students followed, underlining the University’s commitment to fostering academic dialogue on European affairs. This roundtable also underscored the strong cooperation among the Department of History, Politics and International Studies of NUP, Ludovika University of Public Service, and Masaryk University, reflecting their shared commitment to promoting European studies, academic exchange, and research collaboration across borders. The organizers express their appreciation to the Erasmus+ Programme for its continued support of academic mobility and cross-border dialogue.
