Neapolis University Pafos Hosts Fulbright Public Lecture on AI, Global News, and Nation Branding

06/03 - 06/03 @ 18:00

The Communication & Creativity Department of Neapolis University Pafos, within the framework of the Fulbright Specialist Program, is hosting a public lecture titled “AI, Global News, and Social Media in Nation Branding: The Truth in Trying Times” on Friday, 6 March 2026, at 18:00, at the Kyrenia Amphitheatre of the University.

The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Dr. William Silcock of Arizona State University, an internationally recognised scholar in journalism and media studies.

The event will examine the evolving role of artificial intelligence, international journalism, and social media in shaping national identity and influencing global perceptions. It will address how AI-driven content, global news ecosystems, and digital communication platforms contribute to nation branding strategies, particularly during periods of crisis and geopolitical uncertainty.

The discussion will explore the intersection of technology, media credibility, and public diplomacy, highlighting both the opportunities and ethical challenges that arise when algorithmic systems influence narratives about states and societies. In an era marked by misinformation, rapid information flows, and shifting global power dynamics, the role of AI in framing national images has become increasingly significant.

This lecture forms part of the University’s broader commitment to international academic collaboration and critical engagement with contemporary global challenges. Through initiatives such as the Fulbright Specialist Program, Neapolis University Pafos strengthens its international outlook and promotes dialogue on the impact of emerging technologies on communication, governance, and global reputation.

The event is open to students, academics, communication professionals, and members of the wider community interested in artificial intelligence, media systems, public diplomacy, and international affairs.
