Ioannou, a Civil Engineer, received his degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki’s Department of Civil Engineering. He completed his M.Sc. in Civil/Structural Engineering from the University of Cyprus’ Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in June 2014, and in July 2022, he received his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the same Department. He investigated the seismic response and evaluation of reinforced concrete elements with brittle details which had been retrofitted using Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). His research focuses on topics like artificial intelligence, materials constitutive modelling, finite elements, and earthquake engineering. He worked as a project consultant for structural and civil engineering consulting firm prior to being hired as a lecturer. He worked on a variety of projects during his industrial career, including those involving the design and supervision of steel and reinforced concrete structures as well as projects involving the assessment and retrofit of existing reinforced concrete structures.
