Under the heading “Frank Gehry: “Nonlinear Processes” from the sketch to design three-dimensional model, the model … and over again” the lecture by architect Charalambos Kannavias has taken place on December 4, 2013 at the Neapolis University in Cyprus. In the lecture works by his participation in the internationally renowned architectural firm Gehry Partners LLP, in Los Angeles, California were presented. The lecture was part of a course Arch M06: Algorithmikos Design (Lecturer: Dr. G. Artopoulos, Lecturer in Architecture) and was open to students and public. There were multiple versions of the same study, investigation, studing the form, "streamline" studies the geometry of the form (under construction rules), parametric design using cutting-edge technologies, construction details and design philosophy. Through the tour at various key points of the design phase (design key moments) the design process is revealed. This process as such uses specific tools and design instruments – the result of which is built building – so the presentation concluded that: "The building ultimately lies somewhere between all the means we use to approach it." The building itself is not contained exclusively either in the original sketch / drawing / ideogram, neither in the draft or in the model nor the three-dimensional model, nor on a visual representation of the image (or even a sensational precision photorealistic plan) nor the text affecting the child or the philosophy that "gave birth". The building lies somewhere between all of the above. With this in mind the greater the comfort in using different instruments / tools the better the end product of our work. This bidirectional switching from tool to tool and from scale to scale (scale models) shows a time different fragmentary views perhaps the building … and the architect as an arranger of all these views cares for their coordination.
