On the 15th of May, the School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences organized the Award Ceremony for the student competition “Engineering Awards ETEK 2015”. During the event, the most outstanding works of students from the undergraduate programme of Architecture and the postgraduate programme of Landscape Architecture were awarded by the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ).
Specifically, two student works were awarded the “Engineering Award ETEK 2015” and received a monetary prize of €500 each:
- “Cinema Attikon (Othellos)” : Eleutherios Vomvolakis and Nikoletta Petrou
- “Municipal Library of Paphos”: Giorgos Kalaitzides and Evaggelos Theofanous
While, two student works received “Honorable Mention”:
- “The Archaeological Museum of the Paphos District”: Christos Konstantinides and Stavros Ioannides
- Linear Park “Seven Chapels of Saint George”: Victoria Aristodemou and Maria- Evaggelia Mperati
The event was part of a series of events, “Engineering Days ETEK 2015”. The latter, together with the student “Engineering Awards 2015” and as well as the main event “Engineering Award ETEK 2015” were instituted by the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) with the overall aims: the promotion of engineering science and technology and / or implementation of innovative ideas and practices in the areas of engineering that have contributed decisively to economic, social, cultural, environmental and sustainable development of the Republic and / or contributed to the maximum extent by offering outstanding or special services to the success of the ETEK aims towards the advancement of engineering science and practice.
The opening and welcoming speeches were delivered by Mr. Stelios Achniotis, the President of ETEK, Mr. Vassos Demetriou, Municipal Councilor on behalf of the Municipality of Paphos, and Mr. Solon Xenopoulos, Dean of the School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences of Neapolis University in Cyprus.
Our keynote speakers included Mr. Themis Filippides, Secretary of the Municipality of Paphos, who presented the “Comprehensive Sustainable Urban Development Plan” of the Municipality of Paphos, and Mr. Giannis Koutsolambros, member of the Executive Council of Pafos2017, who presented the Work of the “Urban Design and Infrastructure Lab”, conducted during the candidacy application of Paphos for the title of “European Capital of Culture 2017”. The latter received Honorable Mention during the Award Ceremony for the “Engineering Awards ETEK 2015” held in Nicosia on the 11th of May.
The School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences led to the effort of these fifty-three volunteering citizens of Paphos, with the contribution of students and members of the academic staff. More specifically, Mrs. Kleopatra Karaletsou, Angeliki Sivitanidou and Evanthia Dova, together with Gannis Koutsolambros coordinated the Lab (2011-2012), contributed with written texts and designs, as well as edited the overall work that constituted the “Bidbook” and the “Newspaper” of the 1st and 2nd phase of the candidacy application of Paphos for the title of “European Capital of Culture 2017”.
Afterwards, the awarded students presented their works and received their prizes and commendations from the President of ETEK.
The open dialogue that followed, between the attendants, students, faculty, ETEK, the organization Pafos2017 and the Municipality of Paphos concluded the event with an upbeat interest and on a positive note.
