Lecture for “Development of Modern Health Systems in Europe”

“Development of Modern Health Systems in Europe, with particular reference to Cyprus and Greece” was the theme of the open lecture organized by the Master of Public Administration of the Neapolis University in Cyprus on the 10th of January 2014. Lorena Androutsou, Member of the 5 (Health and Consumer Protection) of the European Commission, based in Luxembourg was the main speaker. Among others she noted that health systems are vital for growth, it exhibit a high employment rate and employees have a high level of education and skil. The health system can act as a “safety net” for society and contribute to research and innovation.
Mrs. Androutsou stressed however that the European Commission helps to identify and implement appropriate measures to improve the effectiveness of their health systems and to recover their financial soundness. Mrs Lorena Androutsou has a Phd in Health Economics. She studied at the University of Thessaly and in City London and Imperial College London in the areas of economic, political and administrative health. She deals with the politics and economics of health and development strategies and policies to optimize the health of Europe’s population.
