The Neapolis University in Cyprus in cooperation with the Cyprus Association for Dyslexia organized a lecture, on 9 April 2014 in the subject “Dyslexia, early identification and intervention”. Dr. Christiana Koundourou, Special Educator and Visiting Lecturer at the University, noted among other that although the exact causes of dyslexia are not yet determined, but the neurological factors are considered very important as it has been observed that the acoustic and visual centers of the brain of dyslexic individuals is 27% smaller than those of non-dyslexic individuals. Dr. Koundourou stressed that dyslexia is treatable, but it is vital to identify it from an early age so to have an early intervention with appropriate training and support methods. Proper intervention and appropriate learning programs, and psychological support can improve the learning abilities of dyslexic children.
