Open Lecture for Bioclimatic Design at the Neapolis University in Cyprus

The Masters in Landscape Architecture, of the Neapolis University in Cyprus , organized an open lecture at 6.30pm, with the topic: “The Role of Open Spaces in the City of the 21st Century: From the Architecture of the Senses to Climate Change.”

The lecture was given by Dr. Marialena Nikolopoulou, Architect. (BEng, MPhil, PhD Environmental Design in Architecture, University of Cambridge),  Professor of Sustainable Architecture, Architecture School of University of Kent. Prior to her establishment at the University of Kent, Professor Nikolopoulou was Assistant Professor at the University of Bath and Research Associate at the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources in Greece.

Her research interests include integrated energy design of buildings and their environment, based on principles of bioclimatic design. Her emphasis is placed on internationally distinguished research on the role of open spaces in the urban realm. Professor Nikolopoulou is renowned for her extensive research on issues of thermal comfort of outdoor spaces and she has received international awards from different bodies such as the Royal Institute of British Architects, the International Society of Biometeorology, and has gained awards for her publications at a number of world conferences.

The discussion that followed the lecture was coordinated by Dr. Julia Georgi, Assoc. Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, Neapolis University in Cyprus.

Professor Nikolopoulou  was welcomed by Professor Spyros Makridakis, Rector, Neapolis University in Cyprus.
