Presentation of students’ proposals for Polis Chrysochous Municipality

School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences of Neapolis University, Presentation of students’ proposals for Polis Chrysochous Municipality.

On Friday 15th March 2019, the School of Architecture students proposals for structures which are to be placed at the four most significant entrances to the city of Polis, were presented at the Municipal Cultural Center of Polis Chrysochous, in the presence of the Mayor and other members of the Municipal Council, and a very large number of citizens. The proposals were designed within the framework of one of the students fourth year courses, under the supervision of Mrs. Eleni Hadjinicolaou, and the participation of Giannis Koutsolampros. The project has been the result of the close collaboration of the Mayor and the Municipal Council of Polis, and the School of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences of Neapolis University in Cyprus, after an initiative taken by Professor of History at Neapolis University, Giorgos Georgis.

The Mayor, Mr. Yiotis Papachristofi, mentioned that such an activity is highly significant for the Municipality and its people, as it sets the beginning of a series of collaborations between the Municipality and Neapolis University.

Mr. Papachristofi has also praised the quality of the projects, preliminary drawings and models of which, he has seen during his visit to the University a few weeks earlier. He explained that the presentation constitutes the first stage of the particular project, and it is to be followed by the formation of a committee with members of the Municipal Council and representatives of the Neapolis University. The committee’s task will be to convene and select the projects which will be further studied and constructed.

The Dean of the School Pr. Solon Xenopoulos, expressed his satisfaction and thanked the Mayor and the Council of Polis Chrysochous for this initiative and the trust they placed to Neapolis University and specifically the School of Architecture. He stressed that this action is important for the School, its students and faculty, as it is part of the students practical training and their connection with market, but also as it is an opening of the School to the local society and the social development. He finally emphasized that in addition to these, such actions by the School have a very positive effect to the aesthetic upgrading of the city of Polis Chrysochous.
