The 1st skypemeeting of InHERiT,theERASMUS+ adult education project titled “Promoting Cultural Heritage as a Generator of Sustainable Development” took place on the 1st of February 2016in Athens Greece at the premises of the Maniatakeion Foundation. This meeting was organised by the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete, and was aimed at discussing the final details regarding the open call for the upcoming twofold teaching/learning activity on «Cultural Heritage as Economic Value: Economic Benefits, Social Opportunities, and Challenges of Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development».
The activity is going to take place in Athens and it was appointed for Wednesday, 11th of May 2016-Sunday 15th of May 2016. It will contain two parts, one dedicated to open lectures and round tables and one with a hands-on workshop applying the theoretical framework. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
An international team of experts, consisting of representatives from the organising partners, namely the University of Athens and the Maniatakeion Foundation, as well as the other consortium partners and other respective institutions, have been nominated for the Scientific and the Organising Committees of the Seminar while the applied workshop will be organised by the Schools of Architecture of the Technical University of Crete and Neapolis University of Pafos.
The key note speaker will be Dr. Mario Aymerich, Director, Advisor to the Director General, Projects Directorate, European Investment Bank, Luxemburgwhile a list of invited speakers hasbeen set, including: Dr. Graham Bell, Dr. Guy Clausse, Ms. Katerina Daskalaki, Dr. Maria Grazia and Dr. Lina Medoni.
Possible topics and research questions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Economic value of cultural heritage. The socio-economic impactof built heritage. The nexus between heritage, tourism and sustainable development. Links to urban regeneration and local development. Theoretical and empirical contributions. Case studies.
- Management and enhancement of cultural heritage. Management strategies and tools. Reconciling conflicting objectives. Governance of cultural heritage systems. What role can and should the public and private sectors play? Case studies.
- Investment needs and financing tools. Investment needs for heritage enhancement. Innovative financing instruments of cultural heritage projects. Public Private Partnerships. Finance tools for urban regeneration and local development. Case studies.
