Particular reference to the study for the revitalization of the Gardens in Halki, prepared by the Neapolis University in Cyprus was made by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during his recent official visit to Alexandroupolis in Thrace. The Orthodox Bishop was informed by the responsible of the study, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, Dr. Julia Georgi, about the development of the project and future steps needed for the completion.
The official welcoming ceremony of the Ecumenical Patriarch was held in the presence of civil and churches leadership of Greece. The government was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister. Kyriakos Gerontopoulos, and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. C. Ntolios and Education Mr. Al. Dermentzopoulos. Also present were the mayor of Alexandroupolis Mr. Evangelos Lampakis and the vice district commissioner of Ebro Mr. Dimitris Petrovic.
