On Friday, March 14, 2014 in the auditorium of Neapolis University in Cyprus an event was organized by the University, the Agency “Cultural Capital of Europe – Paphos 2017», the Cyprus Architects Association (Department of Paphos), Pafos Municipality and the Association ALUMNI of the Bauhaus- University in Weimar, on “Start of a new style in Architecture, in Art and Design – 95 years since the establishment of the Educational Institution of Bauhaus.”
Greeting messages were given by the coordinator of the event, Mrs. Angela Sofocli, architect and member of the Committee of CAA & ALUMNI Bauhaus-University in Weimar, Mr. Savvas Vergas, Mayor of Paphos, Mr. John Koutsolampros, architect, member of the Board of the Paphos 2017, Mr. Dimitris Antoniou, Assistant Professor of Architectural Design and Technology in the School of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences of the Neapolis University in Cyprus.
Presentations were made by: Michael Siebenbrodt, architect, with the subject “Architecture of Bauhaus: experiment for the future”, Dr Julia Georges, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Director of European and Research Programs of the Neapolis University, entitled “The Bauhaus and landscape architecture”, Kostas F. Colakides, civil engineer, who spoke on “The legacy of Walter Gropius in Cyprus” and Susannah Anastasi, art historian, who spoke for the Bauhaus in Art.
Last spoke Mr Michael Siebenbrodt, on the subject of the “Bauhaus as Innovative Educational Foundation for Design – First University invented”.
The event ended with the presentation of the German film “Bauhaus – Model & Mythos”.
