Assistant Professor of Experimental Psychology
Loukia Taxitari is an Assistant Professor of Experimental Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Neapolis University Pafos. She holds a Ba in Greek Language and Literature from the University of Athens. In 2004, she received an M.Phil. in General Linguistics, and in 2009, she received a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford, UK. She specializes in language acquisition and development and employs a range of experimental methods to investigate these processes. She has worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Cyprus (University of Cyprus; Cyprus University of Technology), Germany (University of Potsdam), and Italy (CNR, Pisa), applying diverse techniques to the study of language across populations. She adapted the MacArthur–Bates CDI to Cypriot Greek and has contributed to the development of novel methodologies for language research, including tablet-based applications. She has taught extensively in public and private universities in Cyprus and has published several articles and book chapters, presenting her work at international conferences. She serves as an associate editor for European Psychologist, a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals and the annual CogSci conference.
She is also passionate about science communication and has been involved in activities promoting public understanding of science. Since 2021, she has been active in fact-checking and the study of misinformation. She is Editor-in-Chief of Fact Check Cyprus, and apart from fact-checking, she puts an emphasis on media literacy trainings as well as research on misinformation.
