Pafos Coders and Designers Meetup on AI and Software Engineering

19/05 - 19/05 @ 19:00 - 21:00

The Neapolis University Pafos will host the next Pafos Coders & Designers Meetup on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, in collaboration with the local Pafos Coders & Designers community, continuing its support for open technical dialogue and knowledge exchange within the regional technology ecosystem.

The meetup will take place from 19:00 to 21:00 (EEST) at the Ammochostos Amphitheatre on the Neapolis University Pafos campus and is open to students, academics, developers, designers, and professionals interested in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and modern development practices.

This edition focuses on the practical integration of AI into software engineering workflows, highlighting real-world technical challenges rather than theoretical or marketing-driven narratives. The sessions will examine large-scale application migration, debugging methodologies, and emerging interactions between developers and AI-assisted tooling.

The first talk, “A Story of a Painful Migration,” will be delivered by Marek Dominiak, CEO of Sparkbyte Solutions Ltd and software architect with extensive experience in the Java ecosystem. The session presents the migration journey of a large enterprise application from Java 11, Spring 4, Hibernate 5, and Elasticsearch 5 to a modern Java 21+ stack. Through a practical case study involving more than one million lines of code, the presentation will explore architectural challenges, outdated dependencies, migration strategies, AI-assisted processes, and the importance of simplifying legacy systems during large-scale upgrades.

The second talk, “Pixie: From Idea to Market,” will be delivered by Rene Gräwe and focuses on modern debugging workflows and AI-assisted software diagnostics. The presentation introduces the use of logpoints in IntelliJ IDEA as a lightweight runtime debugging technique that enables developers to investigate production issues without interrupting execution or redeploying applications. The session will also explore how AI agents can interact with debugging workflows through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling faster feedback loops and more efficient issue investigation.

Beyond the technical presentations, the meetup will provide opportunities for networking, discussion, and collaboration among participants from both academia and industry, reinforcing the role of community-driven initiatives in strengthening the local technology sector.

Participation requires prior registration via Meetup at:
