Neapolis University Pafos participated in the Clean Energy for EU Islands (CE4EU Islands) Forum 2026, held on 20 and 21 May in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, as part of the European project RECinMED. The University was represented by Dr Natia Anastasi, Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, and Dr Evanthia Dova, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences. RECinMED promotes the development and operation of Renewable Energy Communities and supports the transition towards sustainable energy models across the Mediterranean.
The Forum brought together representatives of European institutions, governments, universities, and organisations under the theme “Resilient Islands, Resilient Europe”, with the aim of reviewing progress and defining the next steps in the energy transition of European islands. Among the speakers were Spain’s State Secretary for Energy, Joan Groizard Payeras, Rosalinde van der Vlies from the European Commission, and Emmanouil Koutoulakis from the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.
Discussions highlighted the leading role of islands in Europe’s energy transition, recognising them as ideal environments for testing and implementing innovative energy solutions that can be replicated elsewhere. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation among local communities, public authorities, and industry stakeholders, while addressing challenges related to financing, regulatory frameworks, and energy infrastructure.
The participation of Neapolis University Pafos in the Forum reflects its continued engagement in European initiatives that support sustainable development, energy transition, and regional cooperation across the Mediterranean.
