Neapolis University Pafos announces the election of its Rector, Professor Pantelis Sklias, to the Board of Directors of UNIMED, the Mediterranean Universities Union. The election took place during the organisation’s General Assembly, held in Barcelona on 8 October 2026.

UNIMED is an international network of universities that promotes academic and research cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region. According to the organisation’s latest figures, the network comprises 208 universities from 25 countries. Professor Sklias’s election to the Board of Directors strengthens Neapolis University Pafos’s participation in shaping the network’s priorities and activities.

The appointment creates opportunities to develop joint educational and research initiatives, promote knowledge exchange and strengthen academic mobility. It also enables the University to contribute actively to partnerships between universities and research institutions across the Mediterranean.

Professor Sklias succeeds Professor Tasos Christofides, the outgoing Rector of the University of Cyprus. Neapolis University Pafos extends its sincere thanks to Professor Christofides for his support, as well as to Professor Panagiotis Zafeiris, Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology, for supporting Professor Sklias’s candidacy.

The election strengthens the representation of the Cypriot university community within UNIMED and supports Neapolis University Pafos’s strategy of developing international partnerships. The University will continue to contribute actively to the network’s initiatives, fostering academic and research cooperation among universities across the Mediterranean.
