The MSc in Information Systems and Digital Innovation of Neapolis University Pafos, in collaboration with the NUP-WiSTEM initiative of the Department of Computer Science, is organising a hybrid lecture titled “The Shapley Value: From Game Theory to Machine Learning”, on Monday, 16 November 2026, from 17:45 to 18:45, at the Keryneia Amphitheatre of Neapolis University Pafos and online via Microsoft Teams.
The lecture will focus on the Shapley value, an elegant formula introduced by Lloyd Shapley in 1953 for fairly distributing payoffs among players in a cooperative game. More than half a century later, this formula has found a second life in machine learning.
The lecture will explore the original definition of the Shapley value and its key properties. It will then show how the same idea can be used to explain predictions of machine learning models.
The speaker will be Prof. Dr. Ekaterina Gromova of the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) in Riga, Latvia, and the coordinator is Dr. Elena Kakoulli, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Neapolis University Pafos.
The lecture is intended for MSc and undergraduate students, researchers and academic staff.
