Open Rapid Chess Tournament Pafos – Cyprus 1st October 2023: The Independence Day of Cyprus Republic

The Pafos Chess Club and Neapolis University Pafos, in partnership with the Cyprus Chess Federation, are proud to announce the Open Rapid Chess Tournament, set to take place on October 1st, 2023, coinciding with Cyprus Republic’s Independence Day.

This highly anticipated event will be hosted at the prestigious Neapolis University, located at 2 Danais Avenue, 8042, Pafos, offering a perfect setting for chess enthusiasts to test their strategic proccess.

Tournament Details:

• Date: October 1st, 2023
• Time Control: 15 minutes + 3 seconds increment per player
• Format: 7 rounds, Swiss System
• Entry Fees:
  • Free for players with Classical or Rapid ELO rating higher than 2000
  • €10 for members of Pafos Chess Club and students of Neapolis University Pafos
  • €15 for all other players

The tournament schedule is as follows:

• Registration closes on September 30th, 2023, at 18:00
• Opening Ceremony on October 1st, 2023, starting at 10:00 a.m.
• Rounds 1 to 4: 10:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
• Lunch Break: 1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.
• Rounds 5 to 7: 2:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Closing Ceremony: 15 minutes after the last round

Prizes: The organizers will award trophies to the top three players in the tournament and the first three players in the U16 and U12 categories, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.

Registration: To register, participants are requested to send an SMS to +35799610468, including their full name and FIDE ID number. Members of the Cyprus Chess Federation must possess a valid Health Card from Cyprus Sports Organization.

Entry Fee Payment: Participants have the option to pay the entry fee in person at the Palia Ilektriki venue on September 30th, 2023, between 13:00 and 18:00.
