Prof. George Markou received his Ph.D. degree at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. His specialty involves numerous scientific fields related to modeling of structures through the use of the finite element method. His recent research work addresses the modeling of composite structures under seismic loading conditions, soil-structure interaction problems, assessment of retrofitted structures, smart monitoring of structures, and the use of machine learning algorithms for solving engineering problems. Prof Markou is also using high-performance computing in the development of predictive models through machine learning algorithms. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Neapolis, Pafos, Cyprus, and an Extraordinary/Research professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
