Lecturer in International Relations, Diplomacy and Foreign Policy
Dr Marinos Papaioakeim is a Lecturer in International Relations, Diplomacy and Foreign Policy at the Department of History, Politics and International Studies at Neapolis University Pafos. He holds a PhD in Political Sciences and International Relations from the University of Cyprus and an MA in Diplomacy and Foreign Policy from Lancaster University. His PhD thesis examined the evolution of the Republic of Cyprus’ defence diplomacy in the context of protracted conflict.
He has extensive university teaching experience at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Cyprus. He has also taught in higher education programmes delivered in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University and the University of East London. His teaching experience includes International Relations, Diplomacy and Foreign Policy, Research Methodology, and War and Peace.
His research interests include International Relations theory, diplomacy, diplomatic history, diplomacy and emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, small states, defence diplomacy, and security studies. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes and has a forthcoming monograph with Palgrave Macmillan entitled Small States’ Defence Diplomacy in a Protracted Conflict Context: The Evolution of the Republic of Cyprus (ROC) Defence Diplomacy (2004–2025).
He has presented his research at international academic conferences and has served as a COST Management Committee Member and National Representative, as well as a Research Fellow at the Diplomatic Academy and the Institute of Studies for Politics and Democracy.
