Neapolis University in Cyprus and the Lyceum of Ethnarchis Makarios in Pafos organized an event about the surrounding landscapes of the Lyceum on Tuesday, April 26, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Culture Dr. Kostas Kadis.

Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture and Geo-Environmental Sciences of the University of Neapolis Julia Georgi, spoke about: “The Design and the Importance of the Environment of the surrounding area of  Ethnarchi Makarios Lyceum “. School teacher Mrs. Maria Midlindon also presented a brief history of the School, with references to its foundation, as early as 1888, its long theatrical and cultural tradition, its monumental spaces and its expansion and evolution, while third year students of the Department of Architecture and Geo-Environmental Sciences of the University of Neapolis will exhibit their design work in the framework of the course “Landscape Architecture“.

The wider surrounding environment of the Lyceum includes unique and neoclassical architectural styles that adorn the city with their beauty while being connected with Cyprus’s national war eras. As a result, the surrounding environment of the School itself should highlight the wealth that exists within it and the importance of the school while also enabling the development of Environmental Education.

Dr. Julia Georgi emphasized the importance of shaping the school yard for schools of all levels, with particular emphasis on shaping the environment of the school as a recreational area and as a learning area where students, in collaboration with their teachers, can practice in the school yard not only for Environmental Education but also History, Greek, Gymnastics, Geography and others. Finally, Dr. Julia Georgi presented the proposals of the third year students of Architecture for the surrounding environment of the Lyceum and thanked the Head Master of the Lyceum, Mr. Andreas Iosif, Mrs. Evdokia Koulounti, Assistant Head Master of the Lyceum, Mrs Maria Zavrou, former President of the School Committee when the whole project initially began and the Graduate student of Landscape Architecture, Architect Fotia Hatzinikola for her contribution and guidance towards the students.
