Five (5) European Universities meet for an International Workshop organized by the Master of Landscape Architecture

On 26-29th of November 2015 Neapolis University organized an International Workshop of Landscape Architecture as part of the 5th LE-NOTRE PAFOS 2016 in which students and academics from five European Universities participated.

Students and academics from Neapolis University of Cyprus, Anhalt University of Applied Science in Bernburg, Germany, University College Ghent Faculty of Biosciences and Landscape Architecture of Belgium, Universite Ecole de la Nature et du Paysage (ENP), Blais France and Vienna University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture and Planning in Austria studied the Akamas Peninsula and the possible network of footpaths that could be proposed to connect the villages of Pano and Kato Arodes with the gorge of Avakas. Preliminary diagrams, concepts and sketch designs for the Astropark design, the main theme of the International Student Competition LE-NOTRE PAFOS 2016 were also presented and discussed.

More than 60 students participated in the International Workshop, exchanged ideas and even established collaborations as a preliminary step before they submit their design proposals by January 31st, 2016, expiration date of the International Student Competition.

On Friday, November 27th, 2015 Neapolis University of Cyprus also organized the following open lectures for the public as part of the International Workshop:

  • Professor Richard STILES, President of LE: NOTRE Institute, Head of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Vienna University of Technology, Austria on “The role of the LE: NOTRE in the development of the discipline of Landscape Architecture in Europe “
  • Professor Harlind Libbrecht, Board Member of LE: NOTRE, Faculty of Biosciences and Landscape Architecture University College Ghent, Belgium on “Teaching Step by Step the Development of a design project in studio work ‘

The President of the Cyprus Parliament, Mr. Giannakis Omirou addressed the participants during the event on Saturday 28th of November 2015.

The organization and coordination of the International Workshop was conducted  by Dr. Julia Georgi, Assoc. Professor, Head of the Department of Architecture, Land  and Environmental Sciences, Neapolis University of Cyprus, Board Member of LE: NOTRE Institute.
