Democritus University of Thrace and Neapolis University Pafos: Establishment of a New Joint Medical Degree Program

May 30, 2025

Democritus University of Thrace and Neapolis University Pafos announce the creation of a new joint English-language Undergraduate Medical Program. As members of the same European University Alliance, EMERGE, and with a consistent orientation toward extroversion and excellence, the two institutions are joining forces to create a joint, well-structured, and modern Medical Studies Program aligned with the latest scientific developments.

The joint Medical Program will offer enrolled students the opportunity to pursue high-level medical studies at Neapolis University Pafos and Democritus University of Thrace. It will deploy state-of-the-art facilities and technological infrastructure, including those of the University General Hospital of Democritus University of Thrace in Alexandroupolis (https://www.pgna.gr/), covering all medical specialties, staffed by highly qualified academic and medical personnel.

The Rectors of the two universities, Professors Fotios Maris (DUTH) and Pantelis Sklias (NUP), jointly stated:

“We express our great satisfaction with this development. We are convinced that the new joint Medical Program will attract excellent students from Cyprus, Europe, and third countries, expanding the international reach and outward orientation of both academic institutions. The Program will be structured in such a way as to meet the high standards and quality requirements set by the European Commission, in order to obtain the European Label designation and evolve into a European Degree through the processes of creating joint Study Programs within the framework of the EMERGE European Alliance.

We are now beginning the joint hard work required to move forward with the next steps in the accreditation process and enable the Program to be offered in both Greece and Cyprus.”
