August 3, 2026

Neapolis University Pafos has secured funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme for the project GENDRIVE – Gender Equality as a Driver of Research Excellence and Careers in Research and Innovation Institutions. The University will coordinate the international consortium under the Twinning action of the Widening Participation and Spreading Excellence (WIDERA) programme. The consortium brings together world-renowned institutions, including University College London (UCL), the University of Barcelona (Universitat de Barcelona), and KMOP – Social Action and Innovation Centre from Greece.

This achievement represents a significant distinction for Neapolis University Pafos, as GENDRIVE was selected for funding through a highly competitive European call for research projects. The project further strengthens the University’s international profile and expands its strategic partnerships with leading European universities and research organisations.

The project has a duration of 36 months and will be implemented under the scientific leadership of the Department of History, Politics and International Studies, in collaboration with academic and administrative units across the University.

The primary objective of GENDRIVE is to enhance the University’s research and innovation capacity by positioning gender equality as a key driver of research excellence and institutional transformation, an initiative which is fully interconnected with the aims and the vision of the European University Alliance EMERGE where the University is a full member. The project will deliver joint research activities, staff exchanges, training programmes, and mentoring initiatives, while placing particular emphasis on strengthening research management, international networking, and the development of sustainable collaborations with leading European research institutions.

Through GENDRIVE, Neapolis University Pafos aims to contribute to the creation of a more modern, inclusive, and internationally oriented research environment, promoting gender equality as an integral component of academic excellence and innovation.

The selection of Neapolis University Pafos as the coordinator of such a demanding Horizon Europe research project, in partnership with some of Europe’s leading research institutions, highlights the University’s research and academic excellence, its institutional capacity, and the high level of confidence placed in its ability to lead major international research initiatives.
