Neapolis University Pafos Psychology Department Holds Research Meeting with Dr Gadi Gilam

The Department of Psychology at Neapolis University Pafos welcomed Dr Gadi Gilam, Assistant Professor and Head of the Translational Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (tSCAN) Lab at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, on 28 September 2026 for a research meeting with members of the Department’s academic staff.

Dr Gilam was welcomed by Professor Marios Argyrides, Vice Rector for Community and EMERGE European University Alliance Engagement and Chair of the Department of Psychology. The meeting focused on the exchange of research expertise and the exploration of opportunities for scientific collaboration between the two institutions.

Dr Gilam presented the work of the tSCAN Lab and its research on the relationship between pain, emotion and mental health, with a focus on chronic pain, emotion regulation, depression, trauma, perceived injustice and interoception. He also presented the laboratory’s research methods, including psychometric and experimental approaches, psychophysiology, EEG, fMRI and quantitative sensory testing.

Interoception was a central topic of the discussion, with particular focus on its relationship with emotional distress, pain perception and psychological functioning. The meeting also included discussion of potential areas for joint research, including interoception and body image, mindfulness and emotion regulation, chronic pain and trauma.

The participants further discussed opportunities for joint research studies, exchange of expertise and participation in European and international funding programmes.

Our discussion with Dr Gilam identified interesting areas of connection between research on interoception, pain and emotion and the research interests of the Department of Psychology. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and exploring specific opportunities for collaboration.”

The meeting forms part of the efforts of Neapolis University Pafos and its Department of Psychology to develop international research collaborations and strengthen links with universities and research laboratories abroad.
