Neapolis University in Cyprus recently published a research in the Hellenic Journal of Psychology that assessed the levels of national identity, racism and perception of others in three different time-frames (2000, 2004 and 2010). Two hundred ninety-eight students answered three questionnaires in the survey. As for the levels of national identity, the results showed a significant statistically reduction from 2000 to 2010. In regard to racism, the results showed a small but significant decrease from 2000 to 2010 and as to the self-perception as identical or different from others, the results showed the phenomena known as “Λ” on the graph with a statistically significant increase in perceptual similarity rates with others in 2004, after joining the European Union. In the discussion, explanations were given for the above results and proposals for the applications of the results in intercultural education. Also, suggestions are given for future research. Responsible for the research in the Neapolis University in Cyprus is Dr. Marios Argyrides (26843608 / [email protected]).
