Neapolis University Pafos Achieves Historic Top 10 Finish at the 2025 International Mathematics Competition

Neapolis University Pafos (NUP) proudly announces the remarkable success of its student teams at the 2025 International Mathematics Competition (IMC), one of the most prestigious global contests for university students, which took place from 28 July to 3 August. The competition brought together some of the brightest young mathematicians worldwide, featuring two demanding days of problem-solving, with five complex problems per day, written by hand in five-hour sessions and evaluated by an international jury.

For the third consecutive year, NUP participated in the competition thanks to the support of the JetBrains Foundation, under the academic leadership of Aleksander Avdiushenko (JetBrains) and Andreii Smolenskii (NUP). The steady progress of Neapolis teams has been remarkable: in 2023 they ranked 22nd, in 2024 they rose to 15th place, and this year they achieved a historic Top 10 finish, with a total team score of 240.75.

In the main team NUPBrains (#10 worldwide), students Grigorii Solnyshkin, Maksim Levitsky, and Ilya Kondakov each earned a First Prize, while Roman Mishura secured a Third Prize. Similarly, the junior team NUPBrains-Juniors (#30 worldwide) delivered outstanding performances: first-year student Maksim Shevkoplyas won a First Prize, fellow first-year Roman Shumilov achieved a Second Prize, while Stas Alekseev earned a Third Prize and Mikhail Goncharov received an Honourable Mention.

This achievement reflects not only the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students but also the invaluable guidance of their academic mentors. Neapolis University Pafos celebrates this distinction as a milestone in its growing international recognition in the field of mathematics and looks forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.
