Neapolis University Pafos and ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology Sign Memorandum of Understanding

On Friday, 18 July 2025, Neapolis University Pafos (NUP) and the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a strategic academic and scientific partnership between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed at the NUP campus by Professor Pantelis Sklias, Rector of Neapolis University Pafos, Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Managing Director of the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and Associate Professor John Bellos, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at NUP.

During the visit, the ECoE delegation was given a tour of the University’s facilities and met with the University’s academic and administrative leadership. The two parties engaged in a constructive and forward-looking discussion in a particularly positive atmosphere, focusing on the thematic areas that will form the basis of immediate joint action.

The Memorandum outlines key areas of cooperation, including faculty and student exchanges, joint participation in research activities, co-supervision of doctoral theses, and the mutual sharing of scientific information and academic resources. Both institutions also expressed their intention to develop additional agreements that will define the operational framework for specific collaborations, including research programmes and mobility arrangements.

This partnership forms part of Neapolis University Pafos’s strategic vision for internationalisation and innovation, reinforcing its role as a hub for research and academic advancement in the Eastern Mediterranean. At the same time, it supports ECoE’s mission to establish Cyprus as a leading regional centre in earth observation and space-related applications.

Professor Pantelis Sklias, highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating,

“This partnership with a centre of excellence such as ERATOSTHENES opens new pathways for bridging scientific knowledge with practical solutions to real-world challenges, particularly in the domains of sustainability and innovation.”

Professor Diofantos Hadjimitsis added,

“The signing of this Memorandum is only the first step in what we expect to become a dynamic and multidimensional collaboration that will lead to impactful projects with tangible societal and environmental benefits.”
