On the 9th of February, the Kykkos Lyceum of Paphos organized a special event in celebration of “International Greek Language Day”. The event’s main speaker was Dr Diotima Papadi, Assistant Professor of Classics at Neapolis University in Cyprus, accompanied by Ms. Kyriaki Papantoniou, Headmistress at Kykkos and Mr. Xenios Panagi, Deputy Headmaster. The celebration was attended by both pupils and teachers of the Lyceum.
Dr. Papadi discussed the importance of the Greek Language and its contributions to all aspects of Western Thought and Civilization. Her presentation focused on the language’s unique traits, universality, cultivation and namely its persistent relevance to past, present and future socio-political issues. Dr Papadi argued that knowledge of Hellenic Civilisation’s language and contributions to Western Thought enhances cooperation and solidarity between peoples, empowering the realization of humanistic values leading to a more peaceful and open-minded world
