Neapolis University Pafos was proudly represented by Dr. Marios Argyrides, Professor of Counselling Psychology and Chair of the Psychology Department, at two high-level international scientific events in June 2025. His participation significantly strengthened the University’s international profile in the fields of mental health, counselling psychology, and interdisciplinary approaches to human development.
Lecture and Workshop at the University of Wrocław – Poland (24 June 2025)
Professor Argyrides was invited as a keynote speaker and workshop leader at a scientific seminar hosted by the Institute of Psychology at the University of Wrocław. His lecture and workshop focused on the theme:
“Media, Body Image, and Psychological Well-being: Gendered Pressures in the Digital Age.”
During his lecture, he explored how social media influences body image and emotional wellbeing among children and adolescents, often fostering unrealistic expectations and pressure to conform to “ideal” appearances. The hands-on workshop that followed introduced ACT-based therapeutic tools aimed at enhancing psychological resilience among young people. These practical strategies are especially useful for psychologists, counsellors, and educators who support youth navigating today’s complex media landscape.
Professor Argyrides’s invitation to one of Poland’s oldest and most prestigious universities is a testament to his international academic standing and to the high-level research conducted at Neapolis University Pafos in the field of psychology.
Scientific Conference on Cleft Lip and Palate – European University Cyprus (28 June 2025)
Later that week, Professor Argyrides participated as a speaker at the interdisciplinary conference “Treatment of Individuals with Cleft Lip and Palate: Techniques May Change, but Principles Remain the Same”, held at the European University Cyprus. In his presentation, titled “Psychological Considerations in Children with Clefts”, he addressed the complex psychosocial needs of children with clefts and their families, advocating for a holistic support approach led by interdisciplinary teams.
His presentation emphasized best practices and research findings that highlight the importance of psychological empowerment, acceptance of difference, and social inclusion. Professor Argyrides also underscored the role of empathy, parental support, and active participation in school and social life as critical factors in reducing negative psychological outcomes for children with cleft conditions.
Through his participation in these two important events, Professor Argyrides reaffirmed Neapolis University Pafos’ commitment to academic excellence, scientific outreach, and socially responsive research. By actively engaging in international academic networks, the University contributes to knowledge production with real-world impact and continues to grow its reputation as a modern, innovative, and globally connected academic institution.
