Neapolis University Pafos and its UNESCO Chair Contribute to the UNESCO World Science Report 2026

March 27, 2026

Neapolis University Pafos, through its UNESCO Chair on Human Development, Security and the Fight against Transnational Crime and Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property, is contributing to the preparation of the UNESCO World Science Report 2026, a flagship international publication on science, innovation, and technology policy, published every five years.

This contribution strengthens the University’s presence in international research and policy networks and confirms its active role in global discussions on the governance of science and technology. In this context, Dr Georgios Pavlidis, holder of the UNESCO Chair at Neapolis University Pafos, serves as Lead Coordinating Author for the regional chapter on Europe and North America, working closely with international teams of experts.

The UNESCO World Science Report is widely recognised as a key reference for mapping global trends in scientific research, innovation systems, and knowledge policies. The previous edition, published in 2021, recorded more than 200,000 downloads worldwide, underlining its broad reach and policy relevance. The Report supports governments, international organisations, and academic institutions in shaping evidence-based strategies to address contemporary global challenges.

The contribution of Neapolis University Pafos and its UNESCO Chair forms part of the University’s broader strategy to strengthen its international profile, promote interdisciplinary research, and support knowledge production with tangible societal impact.

This distinction reflects the collective effort of the academic community of Neapolis University Pafos and the partners of the UNESCO Chair, while also highlighting Cyprus’ contribution to the international scientific dialogue.
