AA Visiting School Cyprus 2026 Concludes at Neapolis University Pafos

September 8, 2026

AA Visiting School Cyprus 2026, the international architectural education workshop of the Architectural Association (AA) in London, has concluded at Neapolis University Pafos. The workshop took place from 24 August to 3 September 2026.

Titled “Fragments in Equilibrium”, the workshop brought together students and tutors for an intensive process of research and design, focusing on the relationship between architecture, landscape, and Cyprus’s cultural heritage. The programme was hosted for the first time at Neapolis University Pafos as part of the University’s collaboration with the Architectural Association.

The workshop focused on the study of the abandoned village of Foinikas. Participants examined the relationship between existing architectural elements, the natural landscape, and the needs of a contemporary community through site research, photogrammetric documentation, digital modelling, and collective design. They also explored ways of reusing the architectural remnants within a contemporary spatial and social design framework.

The workshop concluded with the presentation of the final proposals for Foinikas, the development and presentation of a 1:1 prototype, and a final critical presentation and discussion with the participation of the jury. The process connected research and design with hands-on construction and the evaluation of the proposals.

“Fragments in Equilibrium” explored how architectural remnants can be connected with new uses while retaining the memory of a place and responding to its contemporary needs.

The workshop was organised on the initiative of Danae Polyviou, Lecturer at the Architectural Association London and Director of formDP Engineering, who also led the workshop.

AA Visiting School Cyprus 2026 was supported by Antonio Moll Moliner, Director at Moll Architects and Integrated Design Tutor at the Architectural Association, Alexandra Savtchenko, Tutor at the Architectural Association, and Panayiotis Ioakim, Architect at Zaha Hadid Architects and Minimaforms. Professor Chrystala Psathiti of Neapolis University Pafos also participated in the final crits.

Hosting AA Visiting School Cyprus at Neapolis University Pafos strengthens the collaboration with the Architectural Association and provides a setting for international academic exchange in architectural education.
