Neapolis University Pafos participated in the official launch ceremony of the new European University Alliance EMERGE – Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement, which aspires to reshape the future of higher education through cross-border collaboration, social inclusion, and by empowering regional universities across Europe.
The Consortium Agreement was signed on behalf of Neapolis University Pafos by Mr. George Leptos, President of the University Council. The signing took place in the presence of the Rector, Professor Pantelis Sklias, and Professor Colin Fitzpatrick, Vice-President of the coordinating institution, the University of Limerick, which leads the Alliance. This significant milestone in the university’s international development was marked during an official ceremony hosted at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
The EMERGE Alliance, which is supported by the European Commission, brings together nine universities from eight EU member states: Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus), Democritus University of Thrace (Greece), University of Limerick (Ireland – Coordinator), Universidade da Coruña (Spain), Université Rennes 2 (France), Université Bretagne Sud (France), University of Inland Norway (Norway), Matej Bel University (Slovakia), and Europa-Universität Flensburg (Germany). The Alliance’s goal is to establish a shared European educational landscape by offering joint degree programmes, promoting increased student and staff mobility, and fostering multilingual and intercultural collaboration.
By participating in EMERGE, Neapolis University Pafos is strengthening its commitment to core European values such as inclusion, sustainability, cultural diversity, and equitable access to quality education, regardless of geographic location. At the same time, it increases the university’s visibility within European networks, enabling it to offer its students new academic opportunities and participation in transnational programmes with an international perspective, thereby further expanding the university’s outward-looking orientation.
