On April 15, Professor Panos Razis greeted attendees in a high-quality lecture. Attendees were briefed on current developments in the field of physics and astrophysics and watched the progress of current CERN experiments. The audience included students from various schools, university students and dozens of visitors of all ages.
In simpler words, Professor Panos Razis described the importance of the experiments carried out at CERN, the role of the Cyprus team and its vision. The lecture was co-ordinated by Associate Professor of Neapolis University in Cyprus Savvas Chatzichristofis. The event was additionally supported by the Cyprus Computer Society and Lead Cyprus.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Panos Razis answered a number of questions and spoke to the attendees. At the same time, he participated in a discussion with the staff of the Computer Science Department, aiming to establish cooperation between the Department and CERN.
Panos Razis is Professor of Physics at the University of Cyprus. He holds a BSc in Physics from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (1980) and the Master of Science (1982), Master of Philosophy (1982) and a Ph.D. (1986) from the University of Yale in the United States of America. During the course of Cyprus’ accession to CERN, he was appointed President of the Cyprus-CERN Joint Committee. Today he is the Scientific Delegate of Cyprus at CERN and a representative of the country at ECFA, which shapes Europe’s future strategy on accelerators, particle physics and other related fields with the development of major projects. He is the Coordinator of the development of a Cyclonium Center for Radiopharmaceutical Production at the University of Cyprus and a Consultant of the Cyprus in the field of accelerator usage for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes of serious diseases (cancer and degenerative diseases).
The lecture of Professor Panos Razis is part of the cycle of events organized by the Department of Computer Science of the Neapolis University entitled “The University of All”. This circle of events undertakes to present and familiarize the Citizens and Students of Paphos with today’s disruptive technologies (such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, cyber security, etc.).
The university’s doors are once again open to the public of our City, demonstrating the Neapolis University in Cyprus sense of social responsibility.
