Neapolis University Pafos students formed the National Cypriot Participation in FLORIADE EXPO 2022

On April 13th 2022, the Cyprus Garden, the National Cypriot Participation in the FLORIADE EXPO 2022 was completed, while the opening of FLORIADE EXPO 2022 took place by His Majesty the King of the Netherlands, William-Alexander.

The Cyprus Garden has been visited also by His Excellency, Giorgio Novello Ambassador of Italy to the Netherlands and Vice-President of the Steering Committee of Floriade Expo 2022, Aldwin Dekkers President of the Steering Committee of Floriade Expo 2022 and Belgian Commissioner-General to Expo 2020 Dubai, and Mr. Dimitris Karkentzis,  the Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions.

The professor of Landscape Architecture Dr. Julia Tzortzi of Politecnico di Milano and Neapolis Universty Pafos, Member of the Steering Committee of FLORIADE EXPO 2022, following the nomination by Professor Dr. Costa Kadis, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus, alongside 9 students of the Master of Landscape Architecture of Neapolis University, designed and implemented a Thematic Garden as the National Participation of Cyprus in the International Exhibition FLORIADE EXPO 2022 that takes place every 10 years.

The garden received positive feedback from everyone as well as from the jury.

The concept of the participation is the promotion of the existence of the Green Line that divides Nicosia into two, as the last separated European capital.

The shape of the wooden bench shows the possibility of reusing and constructing living spaces from the burned trees in the Mediterranean and especially in Cyprus.

The organization of FLORIADE EXPO 2022 especially the Technical Broker of FLORIADE PARK Mr. Henri Boersen, the Project Manager of the International Participants Mrs Juli Faassen and the Account Manager International Participants Mr. Elwin Hulscherplanted, supported the construction of the Cyprus Garden economically and by planting 2 Cypriot Cedars (Cedrus brevifolia), an endemic plant of Cyprus.

Moreover, the team was supported in all its efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Department of Forestry and the Forestry Association of Cyprus as the main representatives of Cyprus in FLORIADE EXPO 2022.

This participation was made possible with the warm support of the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Cyprus, Her Excellency Francis Lanitou, and the Vice Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mrs Koulas Sofianou.

The Nicosia Mayor Mr. Constantinos Yiorkadjis, strongly supported the proposal morally and financially.
