As a part of the “Live Laboratory” educational philosophy, a group of students of the Departments of Architecture and Civil Engineering, of the School of Architecture, Engineering, Land and Environmental Sciences of the Neapolis University, visited the tall buildings Del Mar and Blu Marine in Limassol. The construction of the Limassol Del Mar – joined venture of two leading developers Leptos Group and D. Zavos Group – has recently been completed. The students had the opportunity to enter various areas of the dual tower building and receive useful information from the building director Mr. Panos Papadopoulos. This visit enabled the students to appreciate the functionality requirements of such a large-scale building structure. On the other hand, the Blu Marine towers – single project of the well-known developer Leptos Group – are in the early construction stages. Students and academics, wearing the appropriate construction site safety equipment, had the opportunity to see in practice the specifics of the construction of reinforced concrete towers. During the tour, the chief site engineer, Mr. Alekos Michailidis, and various engineering specialists, analysed to the students the significantly increased construction requirements of such tall buildings.
