The Master of Landscape Architecture of the Neapolis University in Cyprus held a workshop on “The flora of Cyprus and the Landscape.”
The coordinator of the event Dr. Julia Georgi, Assoc. Professor, Chair of Architecture department and Environmental Sciences prefaced the event stressing the importance of the Cyprus Flora and the Landscape, which contributes to the quality of life in the country, but also can add to the further development of tourism in Cyprus.
Professor Spyros Makridakis, Rector of the University welcomed the event and the guests.
Mrs Ioanna Panayiotou, Environment Commissioner, welcomed the event and stressed the importance of Cyprus Ecosystems and Cyprus Flora, noting the importance of such events to raise public awareness.
On the first day there were four lectures, in different aspects of the Cyprus Flora. The first presentation by Dr. Gifts Party, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Food Technology and Nutrition at the TEI of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, deled with the native ornamental plants and the second presentation by Dr. Andreas Christou, Head of Sector Research and Enlightenment Forestry and the Forestry Department deled with the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems in Cyprus. The third suggestion from Mr. George Hadjikyriakou, stressed the state of the Cyprus Flora and the fourth from Mr. Michael Loizidi, President Mikytologikou Association Cyprus deled with the Mushrooms of Cyprus.
On the second day of the conference, Mr. Christodoulos Makris, Architect hat a lecture on “Biodiversity of Cyprus”
The conference ended with a tour of the Botanical Gardens Environmental Centre Diocese, in the valley Ezousas.
The event was under the auspices of the Environment Commissioner.
