Giorgos Georgis, member of the Cypriot Committee for the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821

Professor of Modern Greek History, Giorgos Georgis, Head of the Department of History, Politics and International Studies of Neapolis University in Cyprus and former Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece, was chosen as a member of the Cypriot Committee for the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution of 1821 by decision of the Council of Ministers, on the recommendation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, Prodromos Prodromou.

Professor emeritus of Linguistics and former Rector of the University of Athens Georgios Babiniotis, is Chairman of the Cyprus Committee, which is composed of other academics and prominent personalities.

The Greek Revolution of 1821 is one of the main academic interests of Professor Georgis, since many of his publications and academic lectures concern this period, with emphasis on the issue of the captives and the contribution of the Cypriots to the National Revolution.

Neapolis University congratulates Professor Georgis for this honorary distinction.
