Opening Ceremony for the joint master on “Global Political Economy”

The Neapolis University in Cyprus and the University of Peloponnese organized successfully the January 31, 2014 the Opening Ceremony for the for the joint graduate program on “Global Political Economy”.
Guest speaker was Dr. Erato Kozakou Markoullis, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressing the subject “The discoveries of natural gas reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean: Energy security and regional and international political and economic implications.” Between others she stated that the creation of cooperations within the EU to implement various infrastructure projects that could be co-financed by the EU, is an existing target. The European Commission has already approved three projects of common interest, submitted by Cyprus, relating the EU, Cyprus and the region. Alongside Mrs. Markoullis noted that the geographical location of Cyprus as such the crucial and strategic location in the region and the excellent relations with all neighboring countries (except Turkey) and more widely in Asia and North Africa are an important factor in achieving this vision that will bring both political and economic benefits, primarily for the countries in the region, but also for the European Union and globally.
The event was greeted by the President of the Executive Committee of Neapolis University Michael Leptos who stressed that the two universities joining forces for this and in other academic programs, aspiring to create a center for the development and promotion of knowledge in Southeast Mediterranean region.
On behalf of the University of Peloponnese the welcome speech was held by Prof. Pantelis Sklias, Presitent of the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese. Mr. Sklias wished every success to the programme.
