Product Design Engineering

The Joint Programme in Product Design Engineering is an English-taught, interdisciplinary programme jointly offered by Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus) and the University of Western Macedonia (Greece). It combines mechanical engineering with product design, innovation, and industrial application, offering a comprehensive learning experience across two universities and two countries.

The Joint Programme in Product Design Engineering is offered in two alternative study pathways, leading to one single degree award, depending on the duration of studies:

  • Product Design Engineering – 4 academic years, 240 ECTS, Bachelor’s Degree (BEng), Joint Inter-university Programme with the University of Western Macedonia.
  • Product Design Engineering – 5 academic years, 300 ECTS, Integrated Master’s Degree (MEng), Joint Inter-university Programme with the University of Western Macedonia.

Τhe same student is awarded one degree title only, according to the successfully completed study pathway.

ACADEMIC FOCUS & OBJECTIVES

The programme aims to:

  • Educate engineers with a strong foundation in the design, analysis, and development of innovative products.
  • Develop competencies in digital modelling, engineering analysis, and product design technologies.
  • Foster creative and analytical thinking for solving complex problems in real industrial and technological environments.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration with fields such as information technology, materials science, ergonomics, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The joint academic framework of the two institutions provides fertile ground for:

  • Development of applied and research-oriented projects in the field of product design engineering.
  • Participation in innovative and research initiatives and joint academic activities.
  • Strengthened links with professional and industrial ecosystems, reinforcing the connection between academic study and the labour market.

STRUCTURE & STUDY PROGRESSION

The programme is delivered through on-campus study, with a clear distribution of academic responsibilities between the two institutions, following two interconnected pathways:

Pathway 1: BEng (4 years / 240 ECTS)

  • Years 1–2 (Semesters 1–4): Studies at Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus), focusing on theoretical foundations and core principles of engineering and design.
  • Years 3–4 (Semesters 5–8): Continuation of studies at the University of Western Macedonia (Greece), with increased emphasis on laboratory work, applied learning, and project-based courses.

Pathway 2: Integrated Master (MEng) (5 years / 300 ECTS)

This pathway includes all components of the BEng programme and, additionally:

  • Year 5 (Semesters 9–10): Advanced studies at the University of Western Macedonia, focusing on specialised topics and the completion of a Master’s Dissertation.
  • Entry requirement for Year 5: Successful completion of the BEng (240 ECTS).

Language of Instruction: English.

PROGRAMME ADVANTAGES

The programme stands out by combining academic depth, applied learning, and an international outlook:

  • Joint Degree with strong dual academic branding, through collaboration between a private university in Cyprus and a public university in Greece.
  • English-taught programme with an international profile, attractive to both EU and non-EU students.
  • Clear learning progression from theory to practice, enabling a gradual transition from foundational knowledge to intensive laboratory and applied work.
  • Strong emphasis on projects and hands-on laboratory experience, enhancing graduates’ professional readiness.
  • International study experience across two universities and academic ecosystems.
  • Access to modern tools and facilities, including indicative use of CAD/CAE systems, digital modelling techniques, and laboratory-based applications.
