School of Law and Social Sciences
The program of the Law School of the Neapolis University in Cyprus provides the necessary education and practical training to students so that they can make a career in legal professions (lawyers, judges, notaries, legal counsels etc). The Bachelor of Law is structured in a way to provide our graduates with the necessary skills for a successful career in Public and International Organisations, as well as in private sector entities. Teaching is provided in small groups by University Professors and Jurists distinguished in practice and legal science.
In line with the global trend of internationalization of law and exuberant admission of European law into national law, the student becomes familiar with the comparative approach of the two major families of law, the Continental (or civil law system) and Anglo-Saxon Law. For this reason, the student is encouraged to choose a certain number of courses in the other direction than the one he attends to.
Furthermore, special emphasis is given on teaching International and European Law. The Law School provides two relevant Master of Law in ‘International and European Business Law’ and in ‘European Governance’. Τhe post-graduate programs are taught by prestigious Professors from Greece and abroad.
For teaching purposes, all modern teaching means are exploited (PowerPoint, Moodle, e-conference, distance learning etc). On the other hand, teaching is not based on the mechanical transmission of legal knowledge but simultaneously exercises the student through practical team exercises and the continuous evaluation of student understanding. At the same time, the Law School aims at advancing the ability of students to develop legal reasoning and learning how to correctly interpret the Law.
The degree of the Law School of the Neapolis University in Cyprus is recognised by all relevant and competent Cypriot and Greek Organisations as equal of other recognised Universities in EE. The Programme completely covers the necessary knowledge a student must have, in order to become accepted from the Bar association of Greece and take part in the exams of the Cyprus Bar association, as well to others countries in EU.
The current Dean of Neapolis Law School is Professor Antonis Manitakis, former Dean of Law, University of Thessaloniki and former Minister for Administrative Reform of Greece.
«Our ambition is that our Law School, in both Greek and Cypriot directions, will provide our students legal training, by academic teachers and scientists, who are distinguished internationally, with an appetite for teaching, research and love for the legal science.
Our goal is to set up a School of methodical and modern legal education, which will award degrees certifying the necessary education that is appropriate for the exercise of legal professions (e.g. lawyers, judges or notaries, etc.) in Greece or in Cyprus.
The School seeks on taking full advantage of modern teaching methods and all available electronic means in order to imprint to our students the necessary knowledge of national, comparative and European law and provide insight into legal thinking and the art of interpretation of legal texts.
The School of Law provides the opportunity to our students to become familiar with the two major families of law, the Anglo-Saxon and the Continental and to take part in the exams of the Cyprus Bar association as well to the Bar association of Greece”
