Mission: The Department of History, Politics and International Studies provides interdisciplinary teaching and research on historical, political and international developments. It aims to deliver academically robust programmes, cultivate critical and analytical skills, and contribute to scholarly debate, policy reflection and public understanding at national, European and international levels.
Vision: The Department seeks to strengthen its role as a recognised academic hub for interdisciplinary studies in history, politics and international affairs in the Eastern Mediterranean and European context. It aspires to foster research excellence, international partnerships (especially in the context of the EMERGE Alliance), innovative teaching approaches and meaningful societal engagement, while preparing graduates for academic, professional and civic leadership.
Core Values:
Beyond cooperating with local agencies, the Department is developing international partnerships. So far, it has been cooperating with the Centre for International and European Political Economy and Governance of the University of Peloponnisos (Greece). This cooperation includes a joint doctoral dissertation program.
The Department has also been cooperation with the European Network of Political Institutions, based in Brussels.
It is also an active member of the United Nations Academic Impact Curriculum and participates in international scientific associations in disciplines associated with its fields of study.

Finally, the Department is actively involved in networks of academic exchanges and partnerships, the most prominent of which is the Erasmus program.
The Department hosts a prestigious UNESCO Chair in «Human development, security and the fight against transnational crime and illicit trafficking in cultural property» and it has been admitted as a full member of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Network “Human Rights and Governance: the Rights, Individuals and Communities Faced with the New Challenges of a Globalized World in Crisis.”

Our Department is a proud member of the European Digital Education Hub, an important initiative of the European Commission, which creates an online community for digital education enthusiasts in Europe and beyond.
