Project description:

INES explores ways to increase diversity within European Studies, a field offered by many academic colleges and universities. According to the European Commission, an inclusive and resilient society is necessary to face existing and new challenges.

In light of this, the first objective of the project is to target the systemic inequalities embedded in European Studies in order to make the field more inclusive to (prospective) students with fewer opportunities due to their gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic situation or social and geographical origin, language, religion. The second aim of the project is to strengthen the resilience of European Studies and enhance the capacity of the field to cope with emerging challenges. This project will develop teaching and learning activities which will allow embedding inclusion within European Studies university curricula, pedagogy and administrative capacities.  On this basis, disadvantaged and underrepresented students will have the ability to access and complete European Studies.

The project works at the nexus of European Studies to develop more inclusive policies and practice aligned with the EU core values on social inclusion. The project will generate content that will be used in European Studies programmes to respond to the current challenges faced by the discipline and therefore focus on the resilience of the field. Moreover, the project aims to provide quality training to tutors of European Studies in order to foster a culture that embraces diversity and strengthens resilience. The project has the potential to generate practical tools and solutions which are transferable, and which can be utilised by other organisations and higher education institutions in the EU to help them respond to the continuing challenges of the field.
