Modern and Contemporary History Research Centre

The Modern and Contemporary History Research Centre (MCHRC) was established in May 2017. It aims at:

  • The conduction of primary research in the fields that are related with its purposes.
  • The active participation of postgraduate and doctoral students in research programmes and other research activities.
  • The development of cooperation and synergies with similar research centres and other relevant bodies in Cyprus and abroad.

The activities of MCHRC are directly related with the functioning of the Master in History, the Distance Learning Postgraduate Programme in Modern and Contemporary History, as well as the Doctoral Progamme in Modern and Contemporary History that are implemented at Neapolis University.

MCHRC has a rich collection of books, specially focused on issues of modern and contemporary Cypriot, Greek, and European History, as well as on issues of methodology of History and historical research. It also has a great collection of valuable archival material, such as Cypriot newspapers, Blue Books of the era of British domination over Cyprus, and rare manuscripts from the Greek Vice-Consulate in Cyprus. This material is being digitalized by the staff of the Library of Neapolis University and is gradually made electronically available to everyone interested though the ‘Hephaestus’ Research Repository (https://hephaestus.nup.ac.cy/).
