RECinMED

A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the Mediterranean Region

The RECinMED (A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the Mediterranean Region) project is co-funded by the European program Interreg Euro-MED. RECinMED aims to test innovative solutions in order to promote the establishment and operation of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs), through the development of a new network of cooperation and transnational coordination activities for similar projects. The Project Consortium is headed by the School Center Velenje (SI), and it comprises academic institutions – the University of Bologna (IT) and Neapolis University Pafos (CY)-, NGOs and development agencies – ENERGIES 2050 (FR), AREANATejo (PT), NGO ASSO (IT), Argonauta (HR), PI RERA S.D. (HR)-, and local authorities – the Municipalities of Granada (ES), Smolyan (BG) and Derventa (BA). In the NUP team, led by Dr Natia Anastasi, Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, participate faculty members Dr Evanthia Dova, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, Dr Ioannis A. Pissourios, Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences, and Dr Georgios D. Pavlidis, Associate Professor in the School of Law.

The RECinMED project comprises three Working Groups that focus on three different geographical contexts: urban areas, rural areas and islands, studying existing knowledge and previous applications. NUP leads the Working Group on Mediterranean Islands, which also includes Argonauta (HR), a private NGO that focuses on strategic planning of island development, rural development and especially energy transition, and PI RERA S.D. (HR), a regional development public agency and an interdisciplinary institution founded and owned by Split Dalmatia County. Our Working Group is currently developing a Pilot Project to install solar energy systems for the Šolta Municipality recycling yard, on the island of Šolta in Split Dalmatia County, Croatia. To do this, we have been studying methodologies and tools already developed in selected EU projects that operate in geographical contexts similar to ours.
